Nagpur: The state government on Sunday signed a MoU with IOT Infrastructure and Energy Services (IOT) to set up a Rs500 crore petroleum terminal in Borkhedi around 40km from the city.The proposed plan envisions a mega inland terminal by 2020 that will stock petroleum products of state-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL).Rajesh G President Terminalling IOT said The project would indeed provide a much needed fillip to the ever-increasing energy demands of eastern Vidarbha and the benefits of our state-of-the art technology would benefit our customers with enhanced safety and efficiency. Nagpur: The state board has launched its helpline centre for counselling students and parents as the board exams seasons kicks off from February 21 with HSC (Std XII). In Nagpur division all six districts have a dedicated counsellor to handle queries from students. The queries can be related to mental stress or even about the exam itself (marking system etc). Shriram Chavhan Nagpur divisional board secretary said Students can call in with their queries from 8am to 8pm. The helplines will be functional till the examinations end in March. Board officials said it is natural for students to feel anxiety but it should not affect their academic performance. It is quite common for students to have various questions in the mind and sometimes it can be bothersome. We want that students should keep their minds absolutely free from every worry and focus only on the exams. To create that stressfree environment every year the board starts the helpline project said Chavhan. Since every district has been given a dedicated helpline number students and parents have been urged to contact them specifically. Both SSC and HSC exams will wind up by March 20 and results are expected in June. The board has initiated strong anti-copying measures to make sure that malpractices do not spoil the exam mood. NAGPUR: The police on Sunday recovered dead bodies of a woman and a child hidden under a culvert near Vihirgaon village in the outskirt of the city. The deceased have been identified as Usha Kamble (54) and her one-and-half-year-old grand-daughter Rashi. The woman and her grand-daughter related to crime reporter Ravikant Kamble had been for last 24 hours. The police have detained a former murder accused-turned-grocer Ganesh Sahu along with another person in connection with the case. Based on the initital probe the police are suspecting monetary dispute as a reason behind the murders. The deaceased Usha was running a local chit fund service of which the Sahu family which owned a grocery shop in the vicinity of the Kamble s residence at Pawan Putra nagar was a member. It is learnt that Usha had been demanding the amount which was due to her from Ganesh and his family which is said to have prompted the murders. The bodies were found wrapped in gunny bags. Police have shifted the bodies to the Government medical college and hospital for post-mortem. The Hudkeshwar Police has registered an offence and started probe in the case.
Nagpur: In what can be termed as a nexus between the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) officials and restaurants owners a rooftop restaurant has been opened in a 40-year-old building at Sadar despite complaints. Similar inaction had led to death of 15 persons in a fire at a rooftop restaurant in Mumbai in December last year. RTI activist TH Naidu told TOI that the rooftop restaurant is on a G 1 floor commercial building owned by Vikram Vinayak Buty on Mount Road Extension adjacent to Smruti Cinema Theatre. There is another restaurant on the first floor of the same building. Documents obtained by me under RTI Act from the NMC and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) show that the two restaurants were opened without permissions. There is no NOC from fire and emergency services department and the occupancy certificates too have not been obtained he said. Naidu added that no fire prevention and safety equipment have been installed. The first floor restaurant is totally packed. Permanent construction has been done for the rooftop restaurant which is not permissible. The only access to both the restaurants is very narrow he said. Naidu also said NMC fire and emergency services department and Dharampeth Zone did not take any action on his complaints lodged in January 2017 when the construction of the rooftop restaurant was going on. The officials didn t even bother to do inspection. Restaurant on the first floor is older than the rooftop one. I approached the NMC officials again after Kamala Mills fire incident but to no avail he said. Fire department officials said action would be taken against the two restaurants. Action was delayed as there is only one officer for inspecting and taking action against unauthorized restaurants or buildings. Three rooftops restaurants were closed down after our warning an official said. Over 50 restaurants are functioning on rooftop and in residential buildings without permissions and fire safety equipment. Nagpur: Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) faculty members and students have developed an eco-friendly bike and an e-capacitor which have the potential to make urban transport system pollution-free.The eco-bike VEB 1.0 (Visvesvaraya Electric Bike) has been developed by a team of 25 students from different engineering branches under the in-house Tesla Club of Innovation. The bike can touch a top speed of 47km per hour and run 66km on a single charge. The bike was designed and manufactured in three months at a cost of Rs62 000. The bike has inbuilt SMS alert system for emergencies automatic headlights can be started using a remote and takes 3 to 4 hours to recharge.Electrical department faculty member Ritesh Keshri who was adviser of the team said VEB 1.0 was an exclusively students initiative. The team participated in national level Electric Bike Racing Challenge 2017 in Odisha and stood second runners up and won the future learning award.Keshri said the team will now work on reducing the weight through use of lithium-ion battery. Currently the unladen weight is 140kg with the lead acid battery accounting for 63kg.On the other hand physics department head Babasaheb Sankapal and his PhD students Bidhan Pandit and Swapnil Kharade have developed a flexible and lightweight solid-state energy storage supercapacitor.Sankapal claimed that the e-device on mass production can be used in place of batteries in electric buses and recharged at every halt within city limits. The device can source energy from electrical points at bus stops batteries or solar panels he said.He explained that the device can be rolled up like films once used in cameras and can be used for advanced technology and portable electronic devices.The device was made using a combination of metal chalcogenide a chemical compound and carbon nanotubes to develop a hybrid. The hybrid material possess good conductivity large surface area good chemical stability and good reversibility.Sankapal said the innovation has been published in Nature Scientific reports. The 1 x1 supercapacitor can light up an LED flash light and carries 1.8 volts energy. Right now it can sustain for five minutes.
